Please compile SMP support into the boot kernel. It will make the build process faster for those of us with such machines |

Yes please!
Also, is there anyway to re-build the entire system as being SMP aware - the base glibc included? _________________ ---

yea, that is one thing i am suprised they have not done yet. It cant be becasue they are short in space, the iso is only 16mb big _________________ Face it, we are all noobs.
On the box it said it was designed for Win XP or better, so why won't it work with Linux? |

That's what I was complaining about too. I have an AthlonMP dual with 1G RAM but can't extent to full during install...
My suggestion is either a multi kernel boot cd or a automatic detection here

One can have a SMP kernel *AND* a "-j" option as the default for Make without causing problems for single CPU users. I run just such a kernel on my non-SMP system (I have a dualie board, but one of the two CPUs has been in another system for some time) The -j for make will make the build process a few percent points slower for non-SMP users, but that will not be noticeable.
If it isn't the case already, the data put on the .ISO could be build with the -Os option to reduce its size. It wouldn't be quite as fast, but it is only used furing installation anyway. Speaking of which, why would they need to keep stage1 under 16MB? _________________ The greatest deeds are still undone, the greatest songs are still unsung... |

| Personally, I like my downloads small. There is absolutely no reason to keep it under a certain size, except that it's small. Plus, you can fit it on those bootable buisness cards and whatnot. That's coolness. |

If you guys really need this why not just add your own kernel to the iso ? _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

How would you add the SMP kernel to the ISOLinux installer?
