Please compile SMP support into the boot kernel. It will make the build process faster for those of us with such machines :)

Yes please!

Also, is there anyway to re-build the entire system as being SMP aware - the base glibc included?

On the box it said it was designed for Win XP or better, so why won't it work with Linux?

That's what I was complaining about too. I have an AthlonMP dual with 1G RAM but can't extent to full during install...

My suggestion is either a multi kernel boot cd or a automatic detection here :)

Christian Parpart.

One can have a SMP kernel *AND* a "-j" option as the default for Make without causing problems for single CPU users. I run just such a kernel on my non-SMP system (I have a dualie board, but one of the two CPUs has been in another system for some time) The -j for make will make the build process a few percent points slower for non-SMP users, but that will not be noticeable.

If it isn't the case already, the data put on the .ISO could be build with the -Os option to reduce its size. It wouldn't be quite as fast, but it is only used furing installation anyway. Speaking of which, why would they need to keep stage1 under 16MB?

Personally, I like my downloads small. There is absolutely no reason to keep it under a certain size, except that it's small. Plus, you can fit it on those bootable buisness cards and whatnot. That's coolness.

Has anyone found out any tweaks to get smp support during the bootstrap yet?

How would you add the SMP kernel to the ISOLinux installer?

Read up on ISOLinux, you will find the knowledge to build your own bootable iso.
