|
|
I just emerged the gtk+ package so that I could install sylpheed and ethereal.
However when I try to emerge sylpheed (the stable one) it complains about not finding gtk-config. It does seem as if this file, gtk-config, is not present on my system. But please read on.
Gentoo is running on an 6 year old Compaq laptop that works fine, however I was not able to get XFree 4.2.1 running, as a result I had to manually compile the last 3.x XFree release. X now works just fine.
This also means that I run every emerge session with the "--nodeps" option since it would otherwise download and compile XFree 4.2.1 (which is not an options as this takes 24hrs+ on this laptop + consumes lots of HD space).
Where would I get gtk-config? I thought that it was included with gtk+ which I did emerge, gtk-test worked well in X.
It took me already more than a week to get this far (of course with breaks ) and the gtk-config seems to be one of the last obstacles ... !
Thanks for any help.

I will try to help you, I have gtk-config an when I search which package installed it on my gentoo I have the following results :
| Code: | localdomain root # qpkg -f -l /usr/bin/gtk-config -i
x11-libs/gtk+-1.2.10-r9 *
The GIMP Toolkit [ http://www.gtk.org/ ]
CONTENTS:
/usr/bin/gtk-config

If you have already emerge this package, maybe you can try to reemerge it, I'm not a pro so maybe somebody can give you better information. |

Well I *just* installed the GTK+ so I doubt that this is going to solve the problem.
I guess I must be missing some kind of dependency and gtk-config wasn't built because of that? I have no idea.
It's just that every app that builds on the GTK requires this script file, annoying.
Thanks anyway,
