New gnome install, quesitons: /etc/profile and theme icons.

Hello,
I just installed gentoo, and it is really nice. Running much faster than any of the other distro's I have tried. I have 2 questions about gnome.

1) First when I log in with gdm it doesn't source my /etc/profile?

2) Also I have tried to install themes, I untarred them under .themes, and I can change them in the theme chooser, but the icons are not changed.

I was able to fix the themes thing, I ran the theme chooser from command line and found out I was missing some libraries.

But anyone know about the /etc/profile thing?
