Any suggestions? I've re-emerged pango and firefox-bin, but nothin'. This comes on the heels of a emerge --newuse freetype opengl-update xorg-x11 emul-linux-x86-xlibs curl
this evening.

Same problem here, but it's because I just upgraded to 2005.0.

I'm thinking it's a lib problem... I know X.org changed a bunch of libs during its upgrade... which I never actually authorized (xorg is not marked as ~amd64 in my package.keywords, and I don't use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS)

Deffinitely is a lib problem. I ran into it before and used a dirty hack to get around the problem, and of course it's coming back to haunt me because it wasn't a real fix. There is a bug report about the problem, way old though (a month), and never resolved: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80720

I ran this:

StubbornAesthetics usr # rm lib32
StubbornAesthetics usr # ln -s ../../emul/linux/x86/usr/lib ./lib32

And it works now, although it still complains. Wish this would get fixed...

Running:

# cd /usr/lib32
# ln -s /emul/linux/x86/usr/lib/pango pango

Helps, but isn't an elegant solution.

That second one's the one that came back to haunt me.

How has it come back to haunt you?

I switched to the 2005.0 profile and the problem was back because the upgrade had removed the link since it wasn't supposed to be there. I'm just going to mask emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-1.2 for now since I don't want to do another dirty hack and 1.1 works.

It appears to be the new Xorg that is borken. After installing 6.8.2-r1 (which is the stable version), this is interesting:

Code:
amd64 usr # ls -la
total 132
drwxr-xr-x   15 root root   4096 Mar 12 01:35 .
drwxr-xr-x   19 root root   4096 Nov 21 23:31 ..
-rw-r--r--    1 root root      0 Jan 14 23:26 .keep
....
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root root     36 Mar 12 01:35 lib32 -> ../../emul/linux/x86/usr/X11R6/lib32
....

I don't recall, and I'd have to reinstall to figure it out definitely since I don't have another 64bit system, but it seems inappropriate that the global lib32 directory point directly into X11R6. More likely, the Xorg libs were supposed to be linked into /emul/linux/x86/usr/lib.

So, I did this:
Code:

amd64 usr # ln -s ../../emul/linux/x86/usr/lib ./lib32

as above. The complaints I get now are font problems, which Mozilla and Firefox have always had with certain fonts. No linkage issues.

Firefox is fine here with 6.8.2-r1 but not when I have composite enabled.

Edit: XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 firefox apparently fixes/works around this.

This problem is fixed with emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-1.2-r1 (~ amd64) as stated in bug #80720. Emerge it and try it out :).

YMMV, but I have the emul-x86-gtklibs-1.2-r1 installed and this problem still persisted. To fix, I did:

cd /usr
rm lib32
ln -sf ../../emul/linux/x86/usr/lib32/ ./lib32

This fixed everything for me.

to fix it on mine, i just make a symlink to the emul pango dir in /usr/lib32/pango

the emulgtklibs fix should be marked stable soon, this is a annoying problem.
