Bootstrap Question

Heya.

I am having some problems getting the bootstrap process to work correctly on a very old POS machine that barely meets the minimum requirements (pentium 90/64MB RAM)

I get a segmentation fault during the bootstrap process.

The system appeared to get through a couple of the module categories before it faulted.

Now, if I try to recompile, will the system remember the modules that it compiled successfully, or will it try to start over from the beginning?

Or, another way: when the system does the emerge (and thus determines unmet dependencies), does it see that some of the dependencies are now met?

Any advice, opinions or guidance welcome.
