boot again from the cd and cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep modeline. paste the modeline you want to your xorg.conf and X will have 100Hz (or just take the xorg.conf from the cd :-). notice that this works not with the vesa driver very well.

Have you test gentoo-dev-sources with reiser4 patch ? It works very well.

i use them (morph-sources, too) without any problems for some months. i mean, i only got tiny problems, not these big ones. i only used gentoo-dev-sources a few times long time ago, so i don't know how to do with them. i don't know how they work with reiser4, too. but don't get me wrong, i'm not a fan of extremly performance-unstable²-kernelpatchsets, but see our arch.. it's not well tested like x86 and the new motherboards are not well included in the regular kernel, so it's a need to have this bleedingedge to get full power for your money. this is why i prefer morph-sources, because there're stable, uptodate (like ACPI) and featurefull patches in without these extremly performance patches.

I'm not having a kernel problem, I just want to "borrow" one of the modelines that the auto configure script for X on the ahorn2 cd created for my setup.

Well, I've definitely found that it's a motherboard specific problem for mine. I booted the ahorn2 cd on my gigabyte board and it works fine. My MSI dual opteron just simply doesn't like that cd for whatever reason. Tried all of the available settings for acpi, lmsensors, with and without xorg, with and without framebuffer. None of it works on it. Ahorn1 worked except for smp and lmsensors.

good to hear, but it is still a kernel issue :). i've talked with morph-sources, we can expect a really stable smp kernel the next releases, i guess.

i've got only a ps2-mouse, so excuse me, that i can't test it. i think it's because usb is built-in, so usb-keyboard users can type at the language selection, but maybe this can help: try to put 'usbhid.mousepoll=2' to the kernel line in grub.

to all who didn't do it yet, please vote here for games or not. thanks!

I don't know what you mean, i never got problems like these but you can try disable the spin daemon by /etc/init.d/spind stop.

I have included a framebuffer splash in the upcoming release and i modified this for non-livecd usage. It's for 1024x768. You need a kernel patched and enabled with splash and framebuffer (vesafb). You need splashutils, too. If you don't know how to configure framebuffer with splash, you should read this. A preview is available here.

Download the install-tarball.

Ok ahorn2, your cd is great but i still have the same problem during the "emerge system" :(
More, when i do alt+ctrl+fX to go in a console from X, i have a black screen bugly with many colors. Maybe due to the love-source, why not trying nitro-source ? ;)

this blanky screen error depends on framebuffer. nitro got the same errors like morph and i got no problems with love. i got the same hang with net-tools, but my system doesn't freeze, if you don't care:
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" emerge net-tools
this works!

it's kernel related, i'll have a look at the next release that this works without problems. thanks for your help.

No problems to emerge net-tools with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4(+2.6.11 reiser4 patch for vanilla from love repository).
ahorn, your livecd helped me to migrate ext3 partitions (/var,/tmp,/usr) to reiser4 fs. No problems since three days.
Thank you.

if you wanna help, modulize the whole net-stuff from the kernel (ipv4 and ipv6) and try again, maybe the problem is a module. just modulize everything under devices/net.

nice to hear that it works. anyway, i wish you good luck with your newly reiser4 partitions ;) do you can report a speedup?

What about sound drivers, we have alsa, and xmms, but what is the use if we do not have the sound modules? There is only ac97 codec and Intel chip (Intel 8x0) enabled in the kernel (gzcat /proc/config.gz | grep SND). Please, if you could, include the rest of the sound modules...

Also, I cannot compile my rt2500 wireless drivers because the proper kernel source(+compilation) files are not available, is there any way that I can get these files without having to download and compile a 2.6.11-morph2 kernel. Please include them in the next release... or include rt2500 (maybe rt2400 too for people that use that) in the next release.

I wish you could fix these issues soon, overall it is awesome.

Thanks

damn, you're right about the sound modules... what a bad mistake, i switched something wrong at the kernel configs... thanks for giving me this huge error!

about the wireless, i'm a fan of morph-sources and i send yardbird my wishes for the upcoming morph4. i personally tested some patches for his kernelpatchset. so i can say, with the next livecd64, you're able to use sound and wireless with some amd64 related fixes.

good night, ahorn.

Sorry, but I can't test the partitions now. I can see that I have more free space available on my reiser4 partitions. This is a good thing.
My var partititon had 1.2 GB free. Now it has 1.3 GB.
Great.

just a quick test report for you :)
Currently writing this from ahorn2 livecd, however i did encounter a couple of problems getting here, first being writing the cd in windows, using nero (latest version) and either track at once or disk at once, booted ok but then started complaining about not being able to read the cd and dieing. On a hunch i checked the md5 and it matched so thats not the issue. I have been able to get it working ok by burning the cd image using clonecd, so far so good :)

The only other issue ive encountered so far was the wrong detection of my graphics card, the X auto-config thingy was trying to use the 'ati' driver instead of 'fglrx' for my X800pro, a quick modprobe fglrx and then fglrxconfig sorted everything out and X detected the newly generated file in /etc/X11 and used that instead of trying to auto generate one.

Hopefully this is of some help, if theres any more feedback i can give il do my best to help (can see me being around for a while as everything compiles :D), mucho impressed with everything so far, excellent work :D

i got these bruning problems too. the best way to burn is in TAO, Mode1 and multisession i found out. Thats default in nero, i guess.
Yes and the ati thing... hmmm. i don't have an ati card but i writedthe script for the fglrx driver, too. i'll have a look why i want's to load the driver called 'ati'.

Couple questions if someone knows: using 2.6.11-morph2 sources with Ahorns liveCD.

1) Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 0a)
Has anyone gotten the emu10K to work. Works fine on my other install x86.
Tried it as module and in kernel. Even have 'Emulation for 32-bit applications' enabled in alsa.
Also enabled couple AC97's as modules.
<M> VIA 82C686A/B, 8233/8235 AC97 Controller
<M> Intel/SiS/nVidia/AMD/ALi AC97 Controller

Got a lot of sound modules loaded, but just doesn't seem to be working correctly. Kernel compiles
with no problems, but when have as module and modprobe it, won't load it. Don't have as module right
now or would put error.

Later**Got it working, part of the problem was with rtc not being in the kernel. When messing with the 'clock' and restarting it, saw alsa also coming up. Then copied my /etc/modules.autoload.d/alsa from the working one. Set alsamixer back up and sound works now.

2) Splashutils-0.9.1 doesn't seem to want to emerge. Again, working find onthe x86 install.
Drops out here:
Code:
SYSCALL FOUND: tkill
  CC      splash.o
splash.c: In function `main':
splash.c:218: error: `FBIOSPLASH_SETMODE' undeclared (first use in this function)
splash.c:218: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
splash.c:218: error: for each function it appears in.)
splash.c:218: error: `FB_SPLASH_MODE_SILENT' undeclared (first use in this function)
splash.c:218: error: `FB_SPLASH_MODE_VERBOSE' undeclared (first use in this function)
splash.c:239: error: `FBIOSPLASH_GETMODE' undeclared (first use in this function)
make: *** [splash.o] Error 1

!!! ERROR: media-gfx/splashutils-0.9.1 failed.
!!! Function src_install, Line 91, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

Believe kernel is setup like the x86 one and looked thru the howto.

Later**Got it working, put the newest splashutils in /etc/portage/package.unmask and emerged fine.
Still haven't gotten it working yet. So have lm_sensors and Splash to get working.

3) Getting a bootmisc and alsasound error during boot. Maybe related to #1 above or causing it.
But noticed in /etc/init.d/bootmisc needs clock. Already did timezone symlink, set /etc/rc.conf to local.
Even installed ntp and clock keeping up.
BUT, there is not /etc/conf.d/clock file. It comes from baselayout. Anyone else find this missing after
doing the stage3 install from the CD?
Just remerged baselayout and NO /etc/conf.d/clock again?

Later**Got it working, had to do with the rtc not being set in the kernel. Except for splashutils most of my problems were with rtc.

i'm at work, so i can only answer you two questions.
the clock thing, lock to rc.conf, there's the clock setting. look to the kernel for RTC support, too.
splash and emu10k1 works okay here. but try morph4 and unmask the splashutils in packages.mask.

Yep Ahorn, RTC was the bulk of the problem. Was it set in the kernel and I unchecked it?? Don't know right now.
But that took care of it. Then copied my working config over for alsa and emu10k1. Sound works now.
That took care of the clock problem also.

Working on the splashutils now. Putting the results back in the post ask about the problems.

Thanks again.

Great work on this CD! Actually it'sthe only livecd I could get to work on my computer (besides 2004.1). And it's pretty neat to have a running x-server.
But sadly I've got some network problems. (well besides the installation itself)
The nforce-interface wont work at all (sure it's there, but it's doing nothing) and the marvell interface works, but after some time it simply stops working.

greetings and keep up the good work,
Benjamin

i hope i fixed the network-related problems and i finally got ndiswrapper to work. so what is the best with the windows drivers? to let the user store them on a floppy and use them with the livecd or to put all the drivers on the cd (that's gone be large)?
finally, 2005.0 is out and the cd runs this new profile. a 2005.0 stage3 is also at the networkless livecd.
i'm waiting for some things and going to put the cd online sunday.
