gftp: chinese directories -> can see, but can't download

I started gftp using LANG=zh_CN.GB2312 gftp, and I could actually see the Chinese in the directory names, however, when I tried to download the files, it said files skipped and the console printed out:

** (gftp-gtk:31854): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()

I was able to download the files with only English in their paths. How come?

你去下载一个中文patch的gftp。linuxsir的ebuild。
