WinXP gateway and NIS 2002

I was running Win XP Pro as a gateway using NIS 2002 (Norton Internet Security 2002). Everytthing worked fine with Gentoo; I was able to get updates, etc. Now that my NIS 2002 has expired, I decided to take it out.

Now that NIS 2002 has been taken out from my gateway, I am unable to get any updates from any Gentoo site. I can ping my gateway and I can surf the net but no updates. When I type: "emerge rsync", all it does is say "receiving file list ..." and just sits there until it times out.

Ifconfig-a reports that everything works fine but I am a loss to why this is happening.
