As most of you have seen. there have been ranging problems for the ACPI feature in the gentoo kernel
most of us hang at the ACPI subsystem enabled. or something like that

Something equivalent to this :
-------------------------------------------------------
ACPI: Core Subsystem version [20011018]
ACPI: Subsystem enabled

-------------------------------------------------------

anyone knows a workaround of this problem?
this means using the gentoo kernel to boot WITH acpi and not the 2.4.20 kernel.

Note:
1) acpi has been enabled in USE flags
2) APM is not an option for some of us
3) patching the gentoo's kernel with the sourceforge's ACPI patch will not compile

Why can't you just use vanilla-sources and the ACPI patches?

thats because the gentoo kernel is much more optimized than the other. I know of the possibility of the vanilla-sources and acpi patch. but i was hoping to try the gentoo kernel

And in my case, I am using the XFS kernel. :) My laptop is hardcore ACPI; no APM support. My ACPI partially works.
