during the boot process I can see many more or less important errors, but it is not eays to remember them all so I don't know how to post them in the forums to fix it. Is there a possibility to see a log file where all these failure will be written during install, and how can I watch it?

you can see the messages from the kernel with the command:
Code:
dmesg

but the kernel gives also messages after booting, so you can place the following command in /etc/conf.d/local.start :
Code:
dmesg > /root/kernelboot.log

now you have the kernel boot messages in /root/kernelboot.log

I am testing some new options for my kernel, and on booting my new kernel, the screen starts to flicker and the process stops somewhere during to probing of the pci hardware, right after detecting the cpu. Either way, after searching the forums I see dmesg is the way to see what actually happens during booting, but in order to run dmesg I need to reboot with the old kernel, and then i get the boot message for that boot, not the faulty one before. Is there a way to tell my working kernel not to overwrite the faulty kernels messages or a way to see old boot logs.
