I'm trying to install mrtg on a gentoo server.

I want only mrtg, but if I try to install it, gentoo it try to install also xfree (it said it depend from it).

I've also another machine (redhat) with mrtg working, and there is no need to install xfree.

Anyone have any idea?
Can I modify ebuild script?

Thanks,

Daniele

When I installed MRTG, it never asked me to install xfree. where or when did it say that? My gentoo box is running purely in runlevel 3, without xfree86 or x-windows, or anything like that. When does it ask that?

when somebody "accidentely" has editted the /etc/make.conf file and removed the "-X" from the line

USE="-X -gtk -gnome -xmms"

<this line is variable, but normally -X is always supplied"
