ok, I am using the default proftpd file in /etc/xinetd.d and the basic demo config file that comes with proftpd. If I switch the config file so as to run in inetd mode I get the "421 service not available" error. If I run the server with the same file(only changing it to standalone) it runs perfectly. My problem is, I need it to run under xinetd. Now, I have a config file that was working before I rebuilt. The entire directory structure remained the same after the reinstall, only the xinetd and proftpd builds differ. I get the same 421 error with the once working config file. My problem is I'm not sure how to find what's wrong. I believe it is something to do with xinetd. But I did successfully start and stop xinetd and it seems to be happy. Any help would be appreciated

ok, you can all taunt me now... there's a line in xinetd.conf that's allow only from or something like that and I went through that file like a dozen times and it never registered what that meant. I assumed it meant for some sort of remote admin....
