Can anybody explain my this?:
(the important thing is the gnome (vfs) stuff)

Code:

luna ~ # emerge -u world --deep -p

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild    UD] app-text/ghostview-1.5 [1.5-r1]
[ebuild    UD] dev-util/dialog-0.9_beta20020519 [0.9_beta20020814-r0]
[ebuild    UD] app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-3.1-r1 [4.1-r0]
[ebuild    UD] net-www/lynx-2.8.4.1c [2.8.4.1d-r0]
[ebuild    U ] app-text/sgmltools-lite-3.0.3-r6 [3.0.3-r5]
[ebuild    UD] kde-base/arts-1.0.5a [1.1.0_rc5-r0]
[ebuild    UD] kde-base/kdelibs-3.0.5a [3.1_rc5-r0]
[ebuild    UD] media-libs/libpng-1.0.12-r2 [1.2.5-r2]
[ebuild    UD] app-doc/doxygen-1.2.16 [1.2.18-r0]
[ebuild    UD] app-doc/qt-docs-3.1.0 [3.1.1-r0]
[ebuild  N   ] gnome-base/gnome-common-1.2.4-r3
[ebuild    U ] gnome-base/gnome-vfs-1.0.5-r3 [1.0.5-r2]
[ebuild    U ] media-video/realplayer-8-r4 [8-r2]

luna ~ # emerge gnome-common -p

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N   ] gnome-base/gnome-common-1.2.4-r3

luna ~ # emerge gnome-vfs -p

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N   ] net-libs/linc-0.5.5
[ebuild  N   ] dev-libs/libIDL-0.8.0
[ebuild  N   ] gnome-base/ORBit2-2.4.4
[ebuild    U ] gnome-base/gconf-1.2.1 [1.0.8-r3]
[ebuild  N   ] gnome-base/bonobo-activation-1.0.4
[ebuild  N   ] gnome-base/libbonobo-2.0.1
[ebuild    U ] gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.0.4.1-r1 [1.0.5-r2]

Looks good to me. Portage is being perfectly logical as always, one package doesn't have deps, the other one does. By specifying common, you're asking for a specific part. (I think.)

Sorry guys,

when posting that, It was quite late, I missed the Version numbering ;-).

I was confused, because it wanted to install that much when emerging by hand, but the --update didn't want to install those stuff.

So, please forgive me :-)

take care, have fun
