Greetings !
Did someone get cedega to run with the aforementioned kernel- and nvidia-versions ?
I'd be thankful for any hints on what to try further ...

I've already migrated to 2005.0 profile ([url]https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77171[url]) including emerge -e world

but trying to install Morrowind (which, as it's officialy supported, looked like a good test to me) results in

Code:

bash-2.05b$ cedega /mnt/dvdrw/Setup.exe

I have installed all emul-libs that are called for in http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Gentoo#How_to_set_up_Cedega.2FPoint2Play_in_Gentoo64 , of course minus the nvidia, which comes with >=nvidia-glx-1.0.6629-r2

nothing new concerning morrowind, but as I'm working through [edit (was: "on")] the release-notes I have looked into the warning about sound servers. I'm running kde, and therefore arts , and, more or less as expectet, Point2Play hangs while doing sound tests. Killing the aplay that has benn called by the test I get a 'go' for OSS (though its only available through alsa-oss-emulation on my system) but a 'fail' for alsa.
looing a bit further, the aplay used for the test showed itself to be extracted from the point2play-tarball, instead of p2p looking in the $PATH to find it.
lo and behold, manually executing tha included aplay gave me
Code:
bash-2.05b$ ./aplay -N testsound1.wav
Playing WAVE 'testsound1.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:549:(snd_pcm_hw_start) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START failed: Broken pipe

and symlinking $P"PDIR/test/aplay to /usr/bin/aplay made the my system pass the test (even while having xmms play at the same time)

I'll write a bugreport later; I'd propose that on amd64 emerge should not extract the included aplay but rather make that symlink (and probabaly making point2play depend on media-sound/alsa-utils)

I'll postpone reporting anything as bug until I am more sure that it is one...
I wanted to look a bit deeper into this and found that my first proposal was probably very stupid
Since cedega is build for x86 and we need emul-libs to have it run, naturally the aplay used to test should as well, so using my own 64bit aplay proves nothing.

I'd be glad to have some coments on my rationalizing about dismissing certain warnings Transgaming give in the releasenotes and their howto...

1) http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Cedega-howto#Disable_Sound_Servers :
iirc, having arts dispend itself when inactive should get around this. I'd back this up by p2p's testresult once aplay doesn't segfault anymore.

2) http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Cedega-4.2.1#NVIDIA_66.29_drivers_and_AGP_memory :
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71684 seems to suggest that
a) it will be fixed soon,
and more importantly
b) it should still work without the patch, albeit slower than it could on videocards with lots of ram

3) http://digital-conquest.ath.cx/wiki/index.php/Cedega-4.2.1#2.6.9_.28and_later.29_Kernels_and_Copy_Protection :
This might be where my troubles come from, therefore I hope for sucess-storys with cedega and 2.6.9 ...

Still, I hope that the problem with aplay will reveal, to the trained eye, something about the way transgamings binaries are built that may shed a bit of light on the cedega problems in general. Therefore Here's a bit more to read :)

I get this error, too:

Code:

thomas@thomas-km61 thomas $ cedega c:/Spiele/Steam/Steam.exe
/usr/bin/cedega: line 334: 12071 Speicherzugriffsfehler  $SHELL -c "$RUNWINE $WINVER -debugmsg $DEBUGMSG -use-dos-cwd $WORKDIR $EJECT $DT -- $COMMAND_LINE"

Speicherzugriffsfehler = Segmention fault

LordHelmchen,

I have the same error,

running same kernel, amd64 arch, nvidia-glx-1.0.6629-r1

the error I get when I try to run world of warcraft is the same as you get when you tried to run your windows app. I fixed the aplay issue by sym linking /usr/bin/aplay to /usr/lib/transgaming_point2play/tests/aplay.

But Point2Play cant seem to be able to test my video card because it seems to just hang.

I get this error with any .exe. I don't know when this happened. Switching back to 6111 didn't help. But if I recognize it correctly, I had Steam working with profile 2005.0 and the newest stable nvidia-drivers...

Oaah this really sux sux sux.

I get the same error as in the original post. The difference is I'm attempting to run Need For Speed Underground:2. Sometimes I'm even lucky enough to get the splash screen before it errors. This without changing anything but mostly it just crashes asap.

System notes.

~amd64
glibc and emul-glibc built with nptl nptlonly
gentoo-dev 2.6.10-r7
nvidia-glx-1.0.66.29-r4
nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r3

Not sure what else to put. Since we have similar errors I believe it to be the same issue, hopefully someone has figured this out and posts here though as I've been troubleshooting this for the last 5 hours straight. =/

Call of Duty freezes on me after about a second into the game. After doing some research I found that the 2.6.9 and 2.6.10 kernels screw up the copy protection in some games causing them to fail. It should be fixed in the 2.6.11 kernel, which should be comming out sometime this month. If you want to read the forum you can go here.

It sould be a kernel problem? Copy protection? I don't think it has to do anything with this.

Steam has noch copy-protection and the best of all: It worked fine until now :?

All I know is that many people are reporting that many games such as Call of Duty dont work in the 2.6.9 or 2.6.10 kernels but do on earlier ones.

Well, does anyone have a <=2.6.8 kernel working? None will compile for me. And most are hard masked -amd64. ;/

I updated my kernel to 2.6.10-r7, and things have improved a lot since.

Titans of Steel, which I found on my ntfs-games-partition, looks like it runs nicely.

Both Morrowind's and Black&White' s installer have ceased to give unhandled exeptions, but the setup bails out on both with an error "(0x80040702)" , which may or may not be related to the copy-protection issue mentioned in the cedega releasenotes.

on a sidenote, notepad copied from a sleeping XP-partition does not work, but rather amusingly so: "Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0xdeadbeef in 32-bit code (0xdeadbeef)." I'm still unsure whether this is pure chance and a genuuine memory adress or if something fishy is going on there.

My primary goal of trying the open beta for Face of Mankind is still far from being reached, I still get nothing but 2 dialogues with a warning-icon but no text beyond the "OK" button :(

But upgrading the kernel does seem to be a good idea, generally speaking, since now all Point2Play-tests are sucessfull, even with the cedega-provided aplay binary.

0x80040702 was an Installshield error# due to inability to load a dll. Changing the tempdir in cedegas config from /tmp (which i have mounted -o noexec) resolved it. Since Morrowind works now, I guess that all other issues are cedega-inabilities that everyone has.

Which kernels are you using? I'm using gentoo-dev-sources and the latest version that is unmasked I can find is 2.6.9-r14.

Second I can say you don't neccessarily need to use a <2.6-Kernel for cedega, it worked fine here with 2.6.9 before switching to 2005.0...

gentoo-sources-2.6.10-r7
had to put it into /etc/portage/package.keywords since it's still ~amd64

more or less at the moment :)
as of today, dev-sources are
2.6.1-r2, 2.6.8-r3, 2.6.9-r9, 2.6.9-r14, 2.6.10-r6, 2.6.10-r7
those are available as gentoo-sources as well, but hardmasked:

# Masking all 2.6 versions of kernel packages which were originally
# 2.4 only so that we can merge 2.6 with 2.4 without forcing a
# mass upgrade.

so you need to set
~sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.10
(or simila) in /etc/portage/package.unmask
if you want portage to know them by the name gentoo-sources instead of gentoo-dev-sources.
afaik they are the same otherwise.
