take a look at kde3.1 changelog, korganizer can now interact with exchange if needed, there's also a project (kgroupware or something), that will be introduced in kde3.2 (but is abailable now in separate form) that does everything that exchange does (and probably much more) using apache, ldap and some other tools.
that project it's being funded by the german goverment to manage all official networks so it must be a good thing (tm) _________________ I am Beta, don't expect correct behaviour from me.

"The school won't let us"
That's the excuse I get when I asked my computer teacher why we couldn't use Linux. |

"linux is only better for networking and servers"
"you can't run any windows programs on linux"
"but it's not to bad for a free product" - that one really GRIPES me!! ARGH _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

Yes there are alternatives, although it is up to you to decide how mature they are |

"There's not design software for Linux", I think they mean about page layout software (Adobe Pagemaker, Macromedia Freehand) -in Linux there are people working really hard to get one running, Sodipodi for example- and drawing-paint software like Photoshop -GIMP!!!!!!....
Well... no way... _________________ AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 512RAM CMI8739 Eth RTL8139 TNT2 64MB... Everything running really fine under Gentoo 1.4rc1... really fine... |

At a company with no one capable of truly administering the Windows network we already have:
"Once you leave and setup this new-fangled Linux stuff, and all the Windows problems are gone and everything just works, we wouldn't know what to do _if_ there ever was a problem."
The "no one knows how to use linux" argument. |

So basically, "if it never broke we won't know how to 'fix' it when it accidentally gets shut off." That's why consultants are their friends. Only have him/her in when you need him/her and Linux will work you out of IT Expenses.
I know... I know... I'm preaching to the choir. _________________ An Evil Genious' Guide to Sheeple and How To Avoid Becoming One | 0x4C9EF4A |

Our user's will need to be retrained on how to use Linux and OpenOffice.
When I point out that we have a 30% turnover rate per year, our users can barely use spellcheck, and that by the time we finish rubber rooming the 2k desktops you really CAN'T use them as windows machines everyone kind of looks embarrased and changes the subject.

That's a phrase I'm going to borrow if you don't mind. It's an excellent estimation of the procedure. Besides, there really isn't that much training involved if you set it up to look like W2k (which KDE is great at), and OOo is more intuitave than Office (IMHO).

I'm familiar with that tactic. _________________ An Evil Genious' Guide to Sheeple and How To Avoid Becoming One | 0x4C9EF4A |
