penso che con xcompmgr e transset ci abbiamo giocato tutti, e penso che molti hanno voluto tenere la trasparenza permanente su alcune applicazioni tipo terminali,...
ora è possibile con:
http://transd.berlios.de/
in breve:
Installare
Code:
emerge  xcompmgr

//EDIT: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78275 (qui c' è l'ebuild)

Code:
cd /usr/local/src
wget http://download.berlios.de/transd/transd-0.2.0.tar.gz
tar -xvzf transd-0.2.0.tar.gz
cd transd-0.2.0
./configure
make
make check
make install

(come avrete notato non so fare l' ebuild)

Configurare
Code:
 vi /etc/transd/transd.conf
il file si spiega da solo :)
mettere i seguenti comandi in ~/.xinitrc
Code:
xcompmgr -c -F &
transd &

ed è fatta!

Synopsis

The new X.org releases have brought real transparency support to the X Window System. Unfortunately it is not really usable yet: only a demonstration program named "transset" is available.
transd fills this gap by providing a daemon which sets the transparency of user-defined applications to user-defined values.

Peccato, mi è sempre piaciuta un po di trasparenza reale...
Aspetterò
