st0kes: There's actually an official Gentoo/Cobalt port now.

http://gentoo.404ster.com/ has the full details on getting Gentoo going on the x86 Cobalt. You may also want to pop into #gentoo-cobalt-dev on irc.freenode.net.

I myself look after the MIPS based Cobalt servers, specifically the Qube2 and RaQ2. (Also RaQ1, but this is made difficult, as none of us have test hardware) So I'm not much help with the x86 Cobalts (such as the ones you mention), but I'm happy to help answer MIPS Cobalt queries.

Cheers for the link! I've had a look on this site already. I saw there was hardware and kernel info in the FAQ, and in the HowTo's: how to flash the PROM, but no HowTo procedure on actually installing Gentoo...?

My understanding is that it's a screwdriver job... pull the drive out, plug it into an x86 machine, set everything up... then plug the drive back into the Qube.

But check in #gentoo-cobalt-dev ... the x86 Cobalts work different to their MIPS-based cousins, and so I'm not sure how you go about installation.
(The MIPS based units just netboot... set up a NFS/BOOTP/DHCP server, then hold down Left and Right buttons to boot the unit, and set up Gentoo)

The x86 cobalt boxen have a similar boot/install sequence as their MIPS brethren. Search these forums for some postings on methods to achive this.
