Thx. I guess I'll have to live without CPU usage for the time being, till they come up with a solution. _________________ - Bluesman - |

i was looking at the zetagrid news page yesterday (http://www.zetagrid.net/zeta/news.html), and i noticed it listing a beta version of the zetagrid library for linux x86 that says to be at least 30% faster!!! i downloaded the three library files and put them in my zetagrid directory and tried restarting the client, but i get the following error:
Code: |
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /opt/zetagrid/libzeta_zeros.so: libcxa.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
|
has anyone tried this new library???
i also noticed that the zetagrid ebuild is v1.8.4, but the current version listed on the zeta website is v1.8.5
anyone up for updating the ebuild? |

You need two files from the intel compiler:
Quote: |
Beta-version of the latest ZetaGrid library (0137) is available for Linux x86 (423 kB, MD5 ffa36265b76fcddf48de0e5c42131919). This version is compiled with the Intel Compiler 7.0 (needs the library libcxa.so, libcxa.so.3) and should be at least 30% faster than the previous version. This version is tested, but not on multi-processor machines. You get the previous stable version from the server if you delete this file and restart the client with a connection to the server.

Just click the links: http://www.zetagrid.net/zeta/news.html
It is running nicely here. Although it is very hard to tell a speed difference using Zetagrid.
[edit] I can start it correctly manually, and using the inti script, but it does not start @ boot when the runscript is started at the default runlevel.
I cannot figure out why |

I bumped the version of the ebuild to 1.8.6.
It runs fine over here.
So let's get crunching again! |

I'm JimB0Th, of DPRGI team. As your team we're very active in distributed projects (SETI@Home, DF, Zetagrid, UD, TSC, Climate...). If you're interested in Zetagrid stats, let's have a look at http://www.cappellin.net/zetagrid/stats.php . It's my site and there a beta version (I'm developing it, so I'll add new features everyday) of team stats (user stats will be added in the future). You can see day production and last 7 days production of zeros and work units for teams and team members, as well as zeros/day, wus/day, changing in rank (both for teams and users) and other interesting stuff.
I hope you can like it and if you have suggestions please write me.
Bye.

I've just recently upgraded 2 systems to AMD64 and discovered that the Zetagrid package has no amd64 keywords. These systems were crunching for more than 2 years but I'm afraid that's coming to a close. There has also been some discussion on the Zetagrid forums concerning a rival project which has calculated over 10 times the number of zeroes What I'm wondering is, does anyone here still think it's worthwhile to pursue Zetagrid? If not, can you suggest an alternative distributed computing project that seems worthy of more participants, and runs on AMD64? _________________ Vogon poetry is of course the third worst in the Universe. -- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy |

Hi people,
Zetagrid will be shutting down soon. Most people may not know it because they don't use there own account for Zetagrid:
Quote: | Dear ZetaGrid Community member:
This will be my last message to this community. Please accept my sincere
thanks for your contribution to this community. During the last 4 years
I have received numerous significant contributions and we have achieved a
major milestone in the Computational Number Theory and the Riemann Hypothesis
as a leading edge research community. All details will be published soon at
the journal Mathematics of Computation:
http://www.ams.org/journals/mcom/
Now I will close this community with 6,617 members and shutdown the servers
as well as the domain zetagrid.net. That was a very hard decision for me since
originally I planned to ship the new release 2.0 with many enhancements and
the computation of the Extended Riemann Hypothesis. But especially in this
year the availability of the zetagrid services were very poor. That was really
frustrating for many contributors and I received lots of feedback. But in
nearly all cases my hands were tied since the availability depends on the
hosting provider of zetagrid.net. They have done too many mistakes during many
infrastructure migration activities. I got in lots of discussions and in
trouble with them. Please accept my decision and that I cannot response to all
questions and messages. But I always try to response as much as possible.
Best wishes,
Sebastian
