I'm having a problem with XMMS not starting (on my bro's system), occasionally giving me the following lines in a terminal and then stalling
Code:
Available CPU flags: fpu vme de tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow
It happens regardless of what window manager I use, and I even tried unmerging and then re-emerging XMMS. It will occasionally show the error above, and then segfault, or it will show nothing at all and never come up. Now maybe this is a stupid question, but I don't see "-pipe" in the available CPU flags that XMMS is telling me. Does that mean that I will have to re-emerge XMMS alone with specific flags? I'm also not sure on the easiest way to do this. Thanx in advance.

My specs:
Duron 1.3Ghz
K7S5A with onboard sound (using the kernel modules)
GeForce4 Ti200 (using Nvidia drivers)

My flags:
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"[/code]

I had the same problem after emerging a plugin for xmms. The package that did this was 'media-plugins/avi-xmms'

A simple 'emerge unmerge avi-xmms' fixed it for me. If you don't have that installed, type 'emerge search xmms' and look for xmms plugins that you have installed. Unmerge any that are installed and see if that fixes the problem.

That did it. Once I unmerged avi-xmms XMMS started up without a hitch. Too bad, I kinda liked playing avi files with XMMS.
