Ah, the struggles to get this to work -- but it now boots from net-tpe using Weeve's image, if not quite according to Hoyle (rarp apparently is obsolete on my x86 box so hopefully the config lines I put in dhcp.conf are doing the job; I wouldn't mind a method of installing Gentoo that uses the netboot install images as I don't have a working CD burner).
But now what?
The system dumps me into a root shell prompt. This is more or less expected (busybox isn't *that* bright) but I for one would hope that somebody can point me to the right spot to build a usable Gentoo system on this old SPARCstation 10 relic. I can't seem to NFS mount.
For the record: the CPU identifies itself (on my Debian installation that's on there now) as a SuperSparc 50 sun4m running at the screamingly fast speed of 49.86 bogomips. The FPU shows up as a TI Viking/MXCC. The old Debian install likes to print out "unimplemented SPARC codes" on occasion; I forget the details.
And no, I don't quite have 1.5 GB of disk space, although I might have 400 MB on one drive and 1.0 GB on the other. I'm tempted to put some old IBM SCSI drives in this thing (I have 2 8GB IBM DDRS-39130 units) but someone -- I forget who -- advised against it on account of the heat.
I wouldn't mind a crosscompiler either, as long as I'm wishing for stuff. My 1.4 GHz Athlon box has 2760.70 BogoMips.
