would be nice to have 1 meeting with everyone in the uk there, at least once, then we can organise regional things

nope i pulled it off as a bad thing.

i would just have got a cjb.net account to somewhere free temporarily until a true domain could be produced.

gentoo-uk.org is free, we just need hosting now... (i would host but i have a rubbish ISP and a semi slow connection)

Right. Having had around 600 cups of tea and many, many months mulling over this, I've finally come to a decision.

Great to see this thread has risen, Pheonix-like, from the ashes.

And jaz9090, cheers for doing something, even if we don't use the name... It would be a bit weird to have a Gentoo fan site not running on Gentoo, though ;)

I like it, i just think that the UK looks a bit cartoony, just my opinion.
BTW my idea is whats displayed at http://www.gentuk.org what do people think, tho 2 use it ill ahve 2 get permission from the person who did the main part, seeing as it uses one of th backgrounds from this site

yeh i know but my SVG skillz are not the greatest :-) and cartoony is good

anyway i thought yours was a bit offtopic, it's more of a Gentoo UK wallpaper than a logo :-)

Where did we end up on uk.gentoo.org? No (because of rsync-related hassle?)?

I've got an idea for a design, I'll have a play if I don't get distracted (which I probably will). What content will we have though? Obviously we don't want to duplicate any work done on the official site, but it'd be nice to have something other than just a place-holder or a few irregularly updated pages.

Content is a good question.

What can we (uk gentoo users) offer on our site to other people and other uk gentoo users that cannot already be found easily on other gentoo sites?

I can't really think of much :s

Could you put Sheffield on that map? It would help me greatly in placing my dot.

Greetings all. My dot is on the map around the Darlington area.

Also, I own the gentoo.org.uk domain name and can make it available for this if it's wanted.

Blech, I just nicked a public domain map from wikipedia. I suck at UK geography, so anything other than co-ordinates or "two pixels to the left of the London star" is too confusing

What ho! Sunderland, going on Stockton-on-Tees.

I'd be up for a gathering sometime, or at least I'd try and get there anyway.

I can't see much scope for a website other than as a social calendar for the group. I mean it's not like gentoo runs differently in the UK, there's little in the way of language issues and I18N to consider. There might be scope for some news items - gentoo related projects and happenings in the UK, maybe some political discusion.

I can't think of much else that wouldn't be of interest to the wider community - and if is of interest to the wider community then it probably belongs on the forums.gentoo.org boards.

Just my two haporth, obviously
Don't let THEM immanentize the Eschaton!
