Apply patch, then run: autoheader && autoconf && automake. Then build as usual.
You must have iwlib (from net-wireless/wireless-tools) installed for autoconf to detect and configure the extra info. Tested with version 28_pre3.

Just a note that this patch works fine against the current stable gnome-applets-2.8.2

Sorry if this is in bad form for bringing up this thread from the depths of gentoo forums.. but I've got a question regarding this little feature.

Is the gnome wifi applet now part of gnome since there's been no mention of this patch working with gnome 2.12? If so, how do I bring it up? ... can't find it anywhere.
