# emerge sync
# emerge --pretend --update world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order.
Calculating world dependencies -
!!! Error: couldn't find match for || in sys-apps/baselayout-1.8.5.7
Any ideas on how I can fix this? If I missed a faq, please let me know. |

wich version of portage?
Additionally, you may try

emerge portage
emerge baselayout
emerge clean
etc-update

| Hey, good call man. I was having this problem, until I emerged the latest version of portage. Seems to be working fine now. |
