Like many of you, I prefer not to install software on my system unless it's a part of the portage tree. However, I came across a piece of software, Google Sitemaps (SourceForege.net Download), that I'd really like to try out.
I did a quick "emerge --search" for sitemap, which found zero results. So I assume that Google Sitemaps is not a part of the official Gentoo portage tree.
Firstly, did I simply overlook something? Is Google Sitemaps already in portage? If not, I found the Gentoo Developer Handbook and considered creating the package myself. But it got me wondering about legality issues and what not. If I actually do create the package and there is an interest in the community, what can I do to make it an offical part of the portage tree for other Gentoo users to benefit from?
Thank you in advance... |

I assume you've checked out the Contributing Ebuilds guide? As for legality issues, could you clarify that, I'm not sure what you mean: i.e. what issues do you expect to arise from you making an ebuild for it?

No, I hadn't heard of the Contributing Ebuilds guide. Thank you for the link. I'll check that out.
As far as legal concerns go, I am obviously not the author of Google Sitemaps, so I don't know if I can legally create any kind of package that distributes it. It just suddenly became obvious to me that I'm looking in the wrong place, though. I should be checking the license agreement that comes with it.
Thank you for the response... |
