when I'm trying emerge -uv world, this is what I get :
emerge -uv world
Calculating world dependencies
*** Package in world file is not installed: dev-java/maven-bin
|
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "media-plugins/alsa-xmms".
!!! Problem resolving dependencies for media-plugins/alsa-xmms
!!! Depgraph creation failed.
I don't have clue what could be wrong (emerge sync and emerge portage done before), anybody ?
Thanks in advance |

I'm having the same problem on two systems. The one complains that 'emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "media-sound/emu10k1".', the other says 'emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "app-cdr/gtoaster".'. Neither of those directories exists under /usr/portage . The question is, why is emerge complaining about them? I just emerge'd portage yesterday on both systems, and this morning my 'emerge -upvt world' failed on both. I discovered via 'emerge -upvt portage' that there was yet another portage upgrade as of this morning; I upgraded on both systems, but it hasn't fixed the problem with 'emerge -upvt world'. _________________ Michael Hill

Ah, okay, now it makes sense. Poking around some more after my last post, I see that I had media-sound/emu10k1 installed, and it's apparently been completely dropped from portage. (die_vms_die's hint about removing the package got me pointed in that direction.) I hope that package didn't have anything to do with the sound working on my system; I didn't see anything in the files list that looked like it affected the kernel sources. I'll keep the binary package around until I get a chance to reboot and verify that sound works without it. Similarly, removing gtoaster on the other system got 'emerge -u world' working again. Thanks, die_vms_die! _________________ Michael Hill
