the fan on my geforce 3 ti 200 broke and is unrepairable. My only probel is that the heat sync is glued to the chip with adhesive compound. Is there a way to safely get this off? or will i most likely ruin my card |

there is a trick you can try....putting the card in the freezer for 10min or so and getting the compound cold then gently with a screw driver (placing somthing between it and the pcb) pry up on the heatsink/fan by simply twisting the screw driver ..... a flat head screw driver obviously.
just one question though....are you sure this is epoxied to the gpu and not just stuck to it....did you use an epoxy to apply this heatsink? |

i really doubt if the epoxied the heatsink to the gpu...so you can still use the screw driver as leverage...just be careful and remeber to place something between the screw driver adn the pcb and gently twist so the head prys up on a corner of the heatsink....i think its just eh thermal grease they have used has dried out and causes a suction effect , that be my guess anyway. |

A credit card, etc.. usually works perfectly to stick under screwdriver.
Theres usually two types - glue or a flexible adhesive pad. Does the heatsink move around at all with a bit of twisting? If so, it's probably the adhesive pad. If it's rock solid.. stick it in the freezer like mentioned above. |
