I have a K6-2 450 with 192mb memory.

The bootstrap process fails in the same place everytime. I have tried this four times.

The error I get is.
Code:
----------------
make[1]: *** [stdli/subdir_lib] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.2.5-r2/work/glibc-2.2.5'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not compleate successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, line 14, Exitcode 2
!!! (no errror message)

!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.2.5-r2.ebuild .
--------------------

I have uncommented the CHOST, CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS for the K6.

Emerge rsync went ok.

Does anyone know whats going wrong? Should I try to use "stage1-ix86-1.2.tbz2 since I am getting an error on glibc?

Thanks for any help or sugestions.
David

yeah use the stage 1 x86....otherwise your trying to install an iso that is for a i686?....if thats what you been doing i think going from stage 1 and then uncommenting your cpu stuff in make will work for you.

I have been using stage one and have uncommented the CHOST, CFLAGS, and CXXFLAGS for the K6.

I get this same error everytime.

Should I try stage1-ix86-1.2.tbz2 instead of stage1-ix86-1.1a.tbz2?

Thanks

I get The same error message when I do the bootstrap.
I am useing the stage 1.2. I also have a K6 but it is not over clocked. Could this be a bug with K6 cpu's?

All my problems are exactly the same. Obviously, I have uncommented the flags for a Pentium Classic, rather than a K6.

I wish I knew what to do, myself. I can't seem to get the bugger installed.

I installed a stage 1 from a 1.1a iso on my K6-II 400mhz without problems. I was using the march=K6 and mcpu=K6 flags and I made sure that my partition was empty before extracting another *.tbz onto it.

I am running a K6-2 500 that I've been running overclocked to 550, along with an overclocked FSB, for a long time now. I've just got my hands on Gentoo yestarday and I too have come across freak problems during bootstrap when trying to install 1.1a and 1.2 versions, such as Undefined References and Segmentation Faults. And, if I remember right, I've gotten the same exact error as vanfant posted about.

I took wisdom's advice and downclocked the CPU to 525, repositioned some case fans, and ran bootstrap again (march=K6 mcpu=K6) on Gentoo 1.2. Not a single problem. I've found my K6-2 to be very sensitive to overclocking (ie: an extra 50 MHZ is all I've been able to squeeze out of it and even then it can be unstable at times, though it's very rare) and my advice to K6-2 users is to try and downclock your CPU speed if you know your CPU runs a little hot.
