I tried to follow the Gentoo printing guide, but I don't get my printer to work. The first problem is that even "cat text.txt > /dev/usb/lp0" doesn't work. The printer does nothing. I loaded the printer module, and the usb modules. What am I doing wrong? |

A n00b's guide to set up printing with CUPS might give you some more pointers on installing a printer.
The fact that you can't echo things directly to the printer is probably fine. In the
Direct ASCII print in C20SX thread at www.linuxprinting.org someone mentions that you have to send the printer a magic string before it will accept raw ASCII input.
I have a Epson Stylus C42UX printer myself that I can't get to work By following the n00bs guide I\ve managed to get cups running but I'm having problems with my specific driver. Mabey you'll have more luck with your printer driver.
If anyone out there has gotten a Epson printer working please feel free to chime in. |
