Yesterday a problem came up that I have no idea how to solve.
When I do the usual emerge -uDpv world I see LOTS of gnome dependencies trying to mke their way into my system. I don't want them.
Obviously I once had them all, they were dependencies of gedit and gdesklets-core. Now I've taken out of my system every single gnome-based application, yet something is trying to pull those dependencies into my system anyway. I felt an idiot when I realised I have no idea how to see which package is pulling them. Mybe some emerge or qpkg trick? No idea. The manuals didn't help, maybe I overlooked something.
I tried going over every single package installed, using porthole. It was very long work and after unmerging a couple of packages the problem is still there. There just aren't any more major gnome-based programs on my system so the problem must be in some little application/library I compiled with gnome USE flags. I guess there's a very easy solution, but I have no idea where to start looking :( Help!

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of GF8: Why is <y> getting pulled in when I emerge <x>?
