hi,
how can i configure gentoo to use only the sources in /usr/portage and not try to connect to the internet ?
i have no internet-connection and tar-gzipped the /usr/portage from a computer at work,
burned this on cd, went home and built the base-system, extracted the portage-tree.
now, i want to build only the stuff from my hd.

Welcome to the forums.
/usr/portage contains (mostly) ebuilds, which are little programs that tell how to build software. When you try to use emerge to install a package, it must download the source. If you put the appropriate source tarball in /usr/portage/distfiles, it will use that. The fetchonly option of emerge can help you download the needed source tarballs when your computer is connected, and they can then be compiled later at your leisure. I hope this answers your question. You may also be interested in fghellar's Download lists for dial up users. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
