I just released a new version of Denu, 2.3.2. It includes a couple of small fixes. More importantly denu is now available in portage, thanks to Blubb. Thanks. So everyone who did not try it because it was not in portage, here is your chance! |

TanNewt: how do you (can you) revert to the window manager's old menu (I was just playing with denu on GNOME and I killed the menu!). Works very nicely on fluxbox. _________________ no software patents in europe! | adopt an unanswered post. |

Just an update, anyone who has ideas on improving denu please join the mailing lists on berlios. We're in the brainstorming process for denu 3.x . Here is our current list.

Alright here is the skeleton if you will for denu 3.x structure.
Denu Modules -
Free Desktop
Fluxbox
Openbox
Waimea
IceWM
Xfce4
Enlightenment
Various Panels
These modules would consist of these functions.
Import
Export
They would also include a config variable with this information.
Name
Executable to define installation.
Version
Supported features. (do we need this or can an installed module ignore extra info?)
The changes needed to the main denu file are.
Glade support.
Localization.
Themes.
'Add all from category.'
Save denu menus as XML.
Things we should also evaluate are denu's internet based DB and its efficiency in transferring data and its ability to expand and support multiple languages.
This is just a combination of ideas. Please add stuff as needed because I'm sure I forgot things.

Thanks. |

Well, unfortunately I started playing with it before really understanding really how it worked, and managed to obliterate to the Applications menu for all but the two items I added. So how might I go about fixing this and getting back to the default?

I'm assuming you are using gnome 2.10 . Why don't you use denu to build your menu? Just curious, I'm taking no offense. If you are unsure how to use it see http://denu.sourceforge.net/run_down.html . The reason I ask is because I'm usin gdenu with gnome 2.10 and it works just fine. Maybe I'm not communicating something vital.
If you wish to revert to the default gnome menu delete ~/.config/menus/applications.menu . And also delete all the desktop files in ~/.local/shared/applications/ that start with denu_ . If that doesn't work let me know.
Thanks. |

Awesome. Thank you!
I am using denu, didn't realize there was a gdenu - I'll go grab that now since it has your stamp of approval.
Your instructions on that page are quite good, I think I was just a little too impatient for it to load up the menu I currently had. Hopefully I won't make that mistake again.
Thanks again!
[Edit]Friday night dyslexia strikes again. scratch that about "gdenu". _________________ Madness takes its toll. Please have exact change. |

Ah, that would be a lovely feature. And just to clarify: right now it will not load the current menu, but AutoFill will generate a menu based on applications installed via portagae, correct? _________________ Madness takes its toll. Please have exact change. |

I have a little problem with denu, i can't get it to run.
I've just emerged gnome 2.10, and denu.
When i try to run denu as a user, nothing happens:
Code: | forsen@glasscola ~ $ denu
|
Nothing happens. If i hit ctrl+c i get this:
Code: | forsen@boxcola ~ $ denu
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/denu", line 1207, in ?
treeviewdndex = DenuGUI()
File "/usr/bin/denu", line 1094, in __init__
self.populate_installed('', 'yes')
File "/usr/bin/denu", line 752, in populate_installed
new_iter=self.installedstore.append(None, ['folder', 'New', '', self.pixbuf_manager('denu_folder.png'), ''])
TypeError: value is of wrong type for this column
forsen@boxcola ~ $
|
Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
EDIT: my entire system is ~x86 |

It may be pygtk 2.6.1 . I'm using 2.4.1. I'll look into it when I have more time. |

I didn't read the entire thread so forgive me if this has already been answered.
When I type denu in a terminal I get this Code: | Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/denu", line 21, in ?
import gtk
ImportError: No module named gtk | I am using gnome 2.10 so I would think I have gtk installed so this error really confuses me. I installed 2.3.2 through portage. Running amd64.
I also was wondering is Denu capable of editing the root right click ontext menu? [the menu you get when you right click on the desktop.] I would like to create xfce like menus that I can access by clicking on the desktop. _________________ Ware wa mutekinari.

I would suggest searching for this error in general. I do not believe it is denu specific. When I have more time I'll search for it but I dont for a while.

However I would encourage you to search for using gnome with different window managers such as fluxbox or openbox maybe. I do not know if that can be done with metacity, gnome's default WM. |

I'm not quite sure. I'm a fluxbox person so I don't know. I do know that Curtis119 knows of a setup in which the user uses fluxbox instead of metacity with gnome. I'd say PM him. |

I'm having trouble as well..
Maybe it's a bug, but when you name a folder like "Sound & Video" the whole menu is empty (only the "Run application" is there). It must be the "&" since it does handle spaces correctly
I have undone all denu menu's, since it wouldn't remember my icons etc. Back to the old menu then |

Hey everyone.
Anyone ever find a solution to the
Code: |
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/denu", line 21, in ?
import gtk
ImportError: No module named gtk
|
problem? I would really appreciate being able to use denu to customize my menus in gnome, but this is simply blocking my attempts! _________________ "I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio."
