Use "Control Center"
Got to "Desktop" -> "Behaviour"
enable "support programs on desktop"
==> try xsnow again
might be slightly other names as I'm using german kde _________________ time is an illusion - break the clock! |

Running KDE 3.3.1 - I've tried in the desktop settings allowing other programs to run in the desktop, even tried removing my background images.
xsnow runs (there's a process running) but I see nothing. |
Just had this problem, I've got it going (KDE 3.3.1) by turning the icons off and adding xsnow in as a background program. |

I tried it on both fvwm and UWM and I had to click about 4 or 5 times on the desktop to get the menu... Does it behave in the same way for you ? _________________ Un monde

Did you check the "allow programs in workspace window" setting (in esktop settings)? |

In KDE 3.5 the xsnow program runs, but the correct background coulour is only shown in the wake of a snowflake, santa, or other feature. When one closes a window, the original background is there. I'm using the command:
Does anyone know how to get xsnow to take over the background? |

My xsnow erases the nautilus icons and piles up on transparent borders. I don't think it's easy to fix, xsnow is at least as old as linux. |

It's certainly old, but still good. It dates from well before the complexities of modern desktops. There are interesting artifacts when switching between my four desktops in KDE.
You can work around the background issue by setting the background to the same colour as xsnow uses. I found R=112, G=169, B=200 to be a fairly decent match to "SkyBlue3".
Way back when my children were very young, when you closed a window the accumulated snow on top of it "dumped" to the bottom of the screen in a realistic manner. The kids thought it was terrific. Sadly, this feature seems to have been lost. |
