There isn't even a masked ebuild for gtk+ 2.6
What's taking so long? |
Gimps been in portage for a while now (hardmasked, dont ask me why). GTK I am surprised hasnt hit yet, but isnt needed for Gimp 2.2. Nothing utilizes GTKs new features anyway so its pretty much moot at this point...I can package up my ebuild of GTK 2.6 if you like. |

gtk 2.6 is supposed to have a few significant speed improvements (esp. for gimp 2.2), that's why I'm impatient to have it in portage.
We've had the new glib and pango releases for some time now, so I'm surprised to see no sign of gtk 2.6.
So, if you have an ebuild of it that works, then sure, post it, I'll try it out |

Yep it works, been using it since it was officially released. There are the requirements for the ebuild:
>=dev-libs/glib-2.6
>=dev-libs/atk-1.9
>=x11-libs/pango-1.8
I made ebuilds for all of them at the time as well since they were in portage, but I am not sure if they are available now or not, but that is what the ebuild is going to be looking for
You can get it here:

Thanks for the ebuild Lokheed. I modified the atk-1.8.0 ebuild to get 1.9.0 and everything went off without a hitch. |

Glad to be of help IH I think those of you who are running Gnome are going to see the only difference, especially when Gnome 2.10 comes out which is set to use the new GTk+ |

Hello,
this suggestion:
InfinityX wrote: | I just used quickpkg on mozilla-firefox, then unmerged it. emerged freetype and then restore firefox from the package. Doesn't seem to cause any problems |
caused a lot of problems for me:
Firefox crashed on some websites, e.g. www.samba.org.
I fixed this by setting the font-options in firefox to
"use my own font settings only".
So, using freetype 2.1.9-r1 is still dangerous.
Its a pity that 2.1.7 was removed from portage.

funny how packages.gentoo.org still has it listed 2.1.7 listed and no mention of it being removed in the changelog... |

Modify the old 2.2.0 ebuild for the change. All it requires is a version change from the old one...works perfectly, just emerged it. |

I dont think it should be hardmasked. The Freetype issue has been fixed and emerging Firefox 1.0-r3 works with the latest Freetype (2.1.9-r1) and satisfies Gimp 2.2.x and doesnt garble system fonts either. I have two different machines that prove this. |
