I don't know if this is a amd64 specific problem, but thats what my system is so I'll post here!
I just finished installing gentoo but X won't work.
If i run

It starts but no window manager will start, If i try start enlightenment, it starts loading, then just goes back to the strange black and white screen.
If i run

startx
it just doesn't start, with no error
GDM starts to load but then quits.
There are never any errors though

Hi,

I've got a similar problem on my amd64 system : since 1 week, when I launch startx my screen goes black, the X process eats 99% cpu, and I must wait for about 5 minutes for fluxbox to load, without any error message in the logs.

When I launch gdm, i've got the login screen properly, but when i logon, same problem : black screen, and X eating 99% cpu for about 5 minutes ...

The most annoying thing is that now my xorg is slow (before that, my xorg was working perfectly)

I tried several window managers (fluxbox, xfce, gnome,twm), also tried to emerge previous versions of xorg (6.8.0-r1, 6.8.0-r2, 6.8.0-r3), re-emerge nvidia-glx, but got always this problem :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated !
