Right now I can't see anything other than this site - my ISP's nameservers are down. |

Install a caching name server on your machine or another machine on your network. It'll have a list of all the root DNS servers configured and you'll never need someone elses DNS server again as you'll perform your own lookups.
Be aware of the security issues though. _________________ wibble |

Every system I set up includes my ISP's nameservers as fallbacks. They're easy to remember, too:
- 209.98.98.98 - ra.visi.com
- 208.42.42.42 - ns3.visi.com
Both of these have been on for years and have obscene uptimes. They're also pretty fast (< 100 ms) from pretty much anywhere I've tried. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Nice info Printing this out for my systems at home. New ISP doesn't have too many problems (Roadrunner cable) but my old DSL did! Nice to have backup DNS servers available. |

4.2.2.1 - dnsauth1.sys.gtei.net
4.2.2.2 - dnsauth2.sys.gtei.net
4.2.2.3 - dnsauth3.sys.gtei.net
4.2.2.4 - i-will-not-steal-service.sys.gtei.net
Ok, so they're not really public, but the IP addresses sure are easy to remember! |
