Hi!
I have installed Gentoo 2004.3 on my Netra X1. I used the quick guide for sparc on the www.gentoo.org. When I try to boot the new install I get this errors in the boot display:
-------------------------
* Setting user font...Couldnt open /dev/vc/1
Couldnt open /dev/vc/2
Couldnt open /dev/vc/3
Couldnt open /dev/vc/4
Couldnt open /dev/vc/5
Couldnt open /dev/vc/6
Couldnt open /dev/vc/7
Couldnt open /dev/vc/8
Couldnt open /dev/vc/9
Couldnt open /dev/vc/10
Couldnt open /dev/vc/11
* Failed to set user font
[ !! ]
* Loading key mappings...Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
* Error loading key mappings
[ !! ]
-------------------------
Then when its up I get this in a few minutes:
init: Id "c1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
...then again after 5 min..
When I check the /var/log/messages:
agetty[22976]: /dev/tty1: No such file or directory
agetty[22980]: /dev/tty3: No such file or directory
agetty[22977]: /dev/tty2: No such file or directory
agetty[22982]: /dev/tty4: No such file or directory
agetty[22983]: /dev/tty5: No such file or directory
agetty[22984]: /dev/tty6: No such file or directory
Neone have a clue what this is? Have I missed some when I configure the kernal?

Did some adjustments to inittab (diff the livecd and mine) and solved the:
init: Id "c1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
init: Id "c5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
and:
agetty[22976]: /dev/tty1: No such file or directory
agetty[22980]: /dev/tty3: No such file or directory
agetty[22977]: /dev/tty2: No such file or directory
agetty[22982]: /dev/tty4: No such file or directory
agetty[22983]: /dev/tty5: No such file or directory
agetty[22984]: /dev/tty6: No such file or directory
----
Still got the error mess at boot:
* Setting user font...Couldnt open /dev/vc/1
Couldnt open /dev/vc/2
Couldnt open /dev/vc/3
Couldnt open /dev/vc/4
Couldnt open /dev/vc/5
Couldnt open /dev/vc/6
Couldnt open /dev/vc/7
Couldnt open /dev/vc/8
Couldnt open /dev/vc/9
Couldnt open /dev/vc/10
Couldnt open /dev/vc/11
* Failed to set user font
[ !! ]
* Loading key mappings...Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
* Error loading key mappings
[ !! ]
Any tip on this?

You didn't read /etc/rc.conf did you?
rc-update del consolefont
And comment out the KEYMAP entries there. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

Well, I tried diff with the livecd and nothing came up, so I figured the problem was somewere else. I tryed your tip, seems to work, but boot console says this:
* Cleaning /tmp directory... [ ok ]
* You need to setup $KEYMAP in /etc/rc.conf first
* Bringing lo up... [ ok ]
Thanks!

If you are using only serial console you should comment other agetty entries in /etc/inittab, because devices for them is created only if you boot with monitor(imho). |

to remove those messages completely, inlcuding keymap ones, do this:
rc-update del consolefont boot
rc-update del keymaps boot
thats it! My SPARC comes up cleanly now, dont have to edit rc.conf or any such stuff.
Oh yeah, and the previous post is right, you should comment out the c1 to c6 entries in inittab if you like me are using a Netra, which only has serial access and no vid card. |
