No chance, I'a afraid.
4 MB is barely enough to perform a low-memory install of debian 2.0. |

It's doable but not with Gentoo or Debian. I've installed Slackware 4 on a 386SX (not even DX) w/ 4MB memory. The performances were just fine for that type of computer (took 5 secs to fire up mc or apache through inetd). Since old HDD tend to automatically move the head at the outer edge make sure your swap partition is the first one. Of course X is out of the way unless you can get your hands on a wm with a very very low footprint or w/ a stripped down version of X or something similar (I know it exists). _________________ "Is this type of thing going to happen every time we switch to improbability drive?" As small as possible and i'd suggest using multiples of 4 (8, 16, 32, etc) but of course make sure you have enough swap. If the free space nevers goes beyong 16 well set it to 16 otherwise go with 32 (or 24 since you're tight in space). _________________ "Is this type of thing going to happen every time we switch to improbability drive?"
