After installing portage, I typed

Code:

emerge sync
- ok
emerge portage
- compile failed

So I reinstalled the developers tools

Code:

emerge sync
Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?)
Abort trap

I have completely removed portage, and removed any traces of fink that I forgot to remove previously. Then reinstalled portage and I continue to get the same error.

Any ideas?

You might find something here, http://homepages.cwi.nl/~jack/macpython/faq.html , that would indicate what the problem is. HTH
