What's the best way to deal with openGL and mesa living together? Any package that requires openGL to build (for example, tuxracer) will emerge mesa. This seems to replace the opengl libraries (like libGL.so.1) with its own version. Suddenly, everything will use the mesa opengl libraries. However, if you unmerge mesa, it will just be emerged next time you try to install something that requires openGL.
The XFree86 docs say "In particular, be sure you're not using libGL.so from another source such as Mesa or the Utah GLX project".
Is there any way to prevent mesa from overwriting these libraries? How can I repair my system after this happens? Or am I just doing something wrong and this isn't even my problem?

If you emerge xfree that'll take care of Mesa. If you do Glut it'll take bits from mesa 4.0.1, so far I haven't found a way around this but it works. |
