|
|
I'm a Linux newbie; however, I have tried hard to fix my sound problem that has me completely stumped. When I play a wav file (from an X session or from Gnome), the wav file plays, but then last second (approx.) loops over and over about 14 times. While the sound is looping, the audio player (either play or xmms) hangs. That is, I cannot stop the playing or close the sound app. while it is looping.
I set up sound on this system according to the gentoo alsa guide, and I have double-checked that my /etc/modules.d/alsa file is configured according to the guide.
ESD seems not to be working at all. When I try to play sounds from the Gnome Control panel, I get static. Xmms plays because it is configured to use OSS. Killing ESD makes no difference to the looping problem. I re-emerged ESD (esound) after I emerged my Alsa driver.
Some details:
CPU: 1.6Gz Athlon XP
RAM: 1.5Gb
OS: gentoo linux 2.4.19-r10 ebuild
Sound: On board Via 8233
Alsa: 0.9.0_rc6 ebuild
Alsa Driver: via82xx

I would appreciate any help. I've played a little with the CDROM, and it seems to play OK, but all wav files "lock and loop" |

Prior to posting above, I had tried the alsa_driver_0.9.0_rc4 and alsa_driver_0.9.0_rc6 ebuilds. The fix was to use the alsa_driver_0.9.0_rc5 ebuild. |

Thanks, it works. Also, it is useful to note that adding alsasound
does NOT work for via8233 on board sound. (do a search for via8233
on this forum, there are multiple posts which tell you what to do!).
