I just deleted a 2.5 GB log file:
/var/log/messages
was 2.5 GB, I couldn't believe this.... but then I thought about it, still gotta find a better way of doing it cause it only took 9 months to build up to this size (and this is text too). Guess an always on personal file server can log a lotta shit.

Yes there are better solutions, one of them: | Code: | emerge logrotate
man logrotate |
Learn it. Configure it. Use it. (It's capable of compressing and archiving or deleting log files, that get too big, old, and so on.
