Evertything is working ok with my pcmcia nic card. Starts up with no errors, can access the network with no problems, it's just that when i reboot i get this cardmgr error
Dec 12 03:20:27 [cardmgr] executing: './network check eth0'
Dec 12 03:20:27 [cardmgr] executing: './network stop eth0'
Dec 12 03:20:27 [cardmgr] + [31;01m* [0m ERROR: "net.eth0" has not yet been started.
Dec 12 03:20:28 [rc-scripts] ERROR: "net.eth0" has not yet been started.
but it is started i have added it in the default run level and i also tried removing it to have pcmcia bring it up but the same thing happens it starts up fine and all is well but then on a reboot get the same error.
course i don't get the rc-scripts error on reboot, took that from my logs.
Thanks for any advice _________________ party hardy |

This has been happening everytime I shutdown my laptop for several months. I've looked for a bug report briefly, but never found one. I didn't think it was all that big of an error because everything still works. (i.e. every time I reboot it starts the network..) I'm curious to know what the problem is. Also, when I'm booting with the wireless card in there the message saying that it's up and running over writes itself in a strange manner. Does this happen with your system as well? _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Isn't it something wrong with pcmcia scripts? I don't have a network card here to test it, I am sorry. |

I noticed this also with my wireless pcmcia card. I think I also noticed that the net init script is stopped before cardmgr, so that could be why it reports the error. Doesn't seem to affect anything, however....

(replying to old posts, sorry)
The problem lies somewhere between the init script and Gentoo's init system. When you shut down your system, init gets a list of scripts to stop and then stops them one at a time. Although the pcmcia script starts and stops the net.eth? script, it does so through the init system. That means that when you shutdown, both pcmcia and net.eth? are on the list of services to stop. If pcmcia is stopped before net.eth?, then it brings down net.eth? and then init also tries to bring it down. I have talked with azarah about this, but we haven't done anything yet.
As someone mentioned, it is a cosmetic error, and we will get it eventually. _________________ Chad |
