|
|
Hello,
I'm forced to use MSN because that is what people in Brazil use, thanks to Microsoft massive marketing efforts.
Anyway, I used to use a @hotmail.com account just for the sake of MSN, and had no problems using it in Gaim.
A couple of days ago I had the idea of having my @gmail.com account be used by MSN, since it is my name and much easier to be remembered by other people.
Anyway, I had no problems setting up MS's evil passport up, but for some of my friends I appear to be offline when I'm not. To others, it works fine. Yes, I confirmed my email address.
Is it part of MS's conspiracy?
I'll probably go back to using my old account, but this is a big annoyance. I feel like I'm being bullied by MS. _________________ Hello. |

I don't think you have to be this paranoia.
A friend of mine uses also a gmail account with gaim and I can see him perfectly and he sees me as well. _________________ It would be more interesting to learn from children, than try to teach them how to behave, how to live and how to function. - U.G. Krishnamurti |

Hardly. I use a non-Hotmail address for Messenger on a daily basis, and I have 50+ contacts. No problems.
Have you tried other clients than Gaim?

I have not... yet.
The funny thing is that some people see me fine, others don't. _________________ Hello. |

Could be some "problem connection to switchboard" thing. _________________ It would be more interesting to learn from children, than try to teach them how to behave, how to live and how to function. - U.G. Krishnamurti |

Have you checked if they use newer/older versions than others? Maybe they use the "7.0 beta" crap or something. I also use an non-hotmail account daily, never had any problems, but hey I only got 2 friends
Maybe you give your .net accounut up and try to sign up again, or something like that. Try emailing the M$ support, I once had a problem and they helped me and really quick too, weird huh?

My friends are not leet enough to be using Beta versions of MSN... They use whatever came with their copy of Windows.
Anyway, I have 70 contacts, and most people seem to be having a problem with my new account.
I don't think MS support will be too kind when I let them know I'm using Gaim in Linux.
When I get hold of a Windows machine, I'm going to test if it behaves the same with "regular" messenger. Maybe logging on with MS's Messenger will flip some switch on their servers. _________________ Hello. |

I assigned a passport to my ISP's email address and 3 days later I couldn't sign in, I emailed M$ and they said that their server had, had an error and screwed up my account and that they would have to delete it. It took them over a month just to delete it !@#$%! and then I had to re-register it, and after that, the people I had on my list before it got deleted, their msn would get blocking my account whenever they signed off, or I would show up as offline, or other crazy stuff....... I've been meaning to start using jabber but haven't been able to find a client I like (something commandline based). _________________ The God idea is growing more impersonal and nebulous in proportion as the human mind is learning to understand natural phenomena and in the degree that science progressively correlates human and social events. -- Emma Goldman |
