Umm..where to post this...ok,
Been running Gentoo stable now without problems for months. Ive got a Dual AMD MP2000 system, so it has always been very snappy and fast. Recently I decided to add ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" and thus install the latest gcc, glibc etc.
And now when compiling KDE3rc5, it takes ages! Packages which I know by experience took much less time compiling before, now takes forever. Ive got a smp kernel, I got very customized CFLAGS settings, Im passing MAKEOPTS="-j3" etc etc The kernel is the same as before, btw. I havent recompiled this after upgrading from gcc3.2 -> gcc3.2.1 and glibc2.2.X -> glibc2.3.X.
Is it because KDE takes longer and longer time to compile with each new version or what? KDE3.1_beta2 didnt take nearly as long as this does. Any suggestion where I can start investigating? |

Are you comparing equal GCC versions? Compile times in GCC 3+ are considerably longer than 2.95. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I knew that gcc2.95 were faster than gcc3.X when comparing build times (but then again gcc3.X produce faster binary code in most cases). But I only upgraded from gcc3.2 to gcc3.2.1 and glibc from 2.2.X to glibc2.3.X - and Im experiencing these wild increases in build time. Strange indeed |
