Hi,
while installing gentoo here i stumbled over an idea which might be implemented into further versions of emerge: a batch mode with a queue.
What i think of is a queue where i can add packages which i want to be installed and emerge works through this list. This would be a nice way to add a bunch of things on a machine - justat start with a package and while emerge is still working adding more things which are useful on the machine.
Maybe it's possible to write a simple perl script which does this but i have no time at the moment to write it.
Anonye here who already wrote such a tool ?

Well, not really what you are talking about...but _just in case_...
You do that you can do like:
emerge kde gnome evolution openoffice gaim sim
hit enter and it will emerge those one after the other _as long as there are no errors_ (if there is an error in evolution, openoffice, gaim and sim wont emerge, which is good, in case you were emerging things that depended on each other) |
