Hi
perhaps you can use sudo so you don't have to su on a konsole. I never tried to emerge as a normal user, but this user will have to have write acces on /var/tmp/portage and the directory where the program will be installed. If you give a normal user these rights you will insecure you hole system. (Don't laught about it. 1 Month ago I had to reinstall my system because of some strage things netstat showed connections to computers I didn't know...)
So better read the gentoo security guide and make a su on the konsole if you emerge a program.

Don't worry i won't give such rights to any user :o)
That's for security purposes (and also to make things less messy) i wanted to do this, since i like to run as few apps as possible as root.
After all i only need to run them as standard user, not necessarily install them so this was a stupid question :-)

There is a note on the gentoo.org main page that fakeroot building for emerge is now supported, but I haven't looked into the details yet. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
