Didn't do anything special afaik. Installed Mate from the Mate overlay, uninstalled it and this started happening.
Haven't changed my kernel .config in a while, so I have ruled that out.

As a guess:
Code: | zgrep VERSION /proc/config.gz |
Maybe you have turned on CONFIG_MODVERSIONS or CONFIG_MODULE_SRCVERSION_ALL?
alsa-lib's configure.in contains:
Code: | AC_MSG_CHECKING(for versioned symbols)
AC_ARG_WITH(versioned,
AS_HELP_STRING([--with-versioned],
[shared library will be compiled with versioned symbols (default = yes)]), |

Nope
Code: | CONFIG_LOCALVERSION=""
# CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO is not set
CONFIG_ARCH_WANT_COMPAT_IPC_PARSE_VERSION=y
# CONFIG_MODVERSIONS is not set
# CONFIG_MODULE_SRCVERSION_ALL is not set

Try this:
Code: |
emerge -DuNpte alsa-utils > alsa-utils.list
emerge -DuNpte mate > mate.list
|
(Include whatever alterations you may have to make to use something
from an overlay.)
Compare the lists. What dependencies do they have in common,
especially libraries? Do the lists specify that any common dependencies
of both packages be merged with different USE flags?
(I am suspecting that the mate ebuild specified a dependent library
to be merged without versioned symbols, which broke the same library
already merged with versioned symbols as a dependency of alsa-utils.
But that's only a guess. I do not even know if it is possible to pass a
USE flag that disables versioned symbols in a library.) _________________ TIA |

Turns out the problem was my LDFLAGS in make.conf.
Had a parameter, -gc-sections-something, that affected alsalib.
Uncommented the LDFLAGS-line, and everything worked! |
