Hi there,
I did /etc/init.d/alsasound and tried to do alsamixer... but then i get this mesage:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: no such device
anybody a idea? |

You might try the search feature at the top of the page. There have been alot of questions about sound. You might try searching for your sound card.
Sound Blaster Live, SB Live or something similar depending on what you use. There are quite a few things to check that could be causing your
problem, many have already been posted. I'm having problems with sound too... sorry I can't be of more help. |

If you know the module that corresponds to your soundcard, I would just bypass Alsa altogether. (its what I do).. I'm running gentoo on a Dell Cpx laptop, it uses the maestro3 module. I just add that to the modules.autoload file, and then sound is loaded on startup.
To unmute my soundcard, I opened kmix (KDE sound mixer) adjusted my volumes, and then selected "save as default" or something to that nature, then KDE restores those sound volume on startup..
