|
|
First, according to the documentation http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/science/blas-lapack.xml, one should use virtual/blas, but this ebuild is removed from the current portage system, which I just updated minutes ago. How are these packages concerning blas\lapack organized now?
It seems that there are now two different ways of selecting blas\lapack implementations in Gentoo. One is through eselect, another through blas-config and lapack-config. I've emerged the blas\lapack-atlas gsl and mkl. In eselect I can choose mkl and gsl, while in blas/lapack-config I can only choose atlas. What is the difference of the setting in eselect and blas/lapack-config? |

Not concerning the topic maybe, but it seem to have died anyway. What actually are blas/lapack? |

Lapack is a linear algebra package, and I think for example Matlab's matrix functions are adaptions of Lapack algorithms (possible because of the 3-clause BSD-style license). |

btw, the up and coming gcc-4.3 will have included support for (external) blas routines to speed up vector operations _________________ Knowledge is scary....
