|
|
I have a strange problem. On my Netra T1, I have installed Gentoo, everything has booted up well and I'm mainly happy with it. However, I have one problem, my eth1 hasn't come up. My eth0 has come up and is functioning fine. Has anyone seen this before. I thought they would be the same card and would the same driver. If not, does anyone know what driver eth1 uses and which module to load into the kernel?
Thanks

I have a few of these workin fine, they use the happymeal driver. The only thing to note is that the oder of ports is switched compared to the label or solaris, the one labelled 0 is eth1 and the one labelled 1 is eth0.

Thanks Josh, but you would expect to see both interfaces come up irrespective of what ever Gentoo called them, but in my instance, only eth0 comes up and not eth1. |

When you say it doesn't come up, do you mean that it is not configured, or that the kernel does not see it?
If you do "ifconfig eth1", does it say "eth1: error fetching interface information: Device not found"? If not, then the kernel sees it, and you are missing something in init. Did you create a net.eth1 startup script and add it to yoru runlevel?

Mate, checked all this but the kernel doesn't see it. Not only does ifconfig eth1 fail with device not found, when the machine comes up, eth0 is recognised by the kernel but not eth1 bizarrely... |

if you don't already have it, please install sys-apps/pciutils and do lspci. From one my my t1's:
Code: | # lspci
0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Ultra IIe
0000:00:01.0 PCI bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Simba Advanced PCI Bridge (rev 13)
0000:00:01.1 PCI bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Simba Advanced PCI Bridge (rev 13)
0000:01:03.0 Non-VGA unclassified device: ALi Corporation M7101 PMU
0000:01:05.1 Ethernet controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. RIO GEM (rev 01)
0000:01:05.3 USB Controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. RIO USB (rev 01)
0000:01:07.0 ISA bridge: ALi Corporation M1533 PCI to ISA Bridge [Aladdin IV]
0000:01:0c.0 Bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. RIO EBUS (rev 01)
0000:01:0c.1 Ethernet controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. RIO GEM (rev 01)
0000:01:0c.3 USB Controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. RIO USB (rev 01)
0000:01:0d.0 IDE interface: ALi Corporation M5229 IDE (rev c3)

0000:02:08.1 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c896 (rev 07)

or, if you have a t1 105,
Code: |
# lspci
0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Ultra IIi
0000:00:01.0 PCI bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Simba Advanced PCI Bridge (rev 13)
0000:00:01.1 PCI bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Simba Advanced PCI Bridge (rev 13)
0000:01:01.0 Bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. EBUS (rev 01)
0000:01:01.1 Ethernet controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Happy Meal (rev 01)
0000:01:02.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c875 (rev 03)
0000:01:03.1 Ethernet controller: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Happy Meal (rev 01)
0000:02:01.0 PCI bridge: Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21150 (rev 06)
0000:03:0e.0 IDE interface: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) PCI0646 (rev 03)

Do you show two Ethernet PCI devices when you do a lspci?

Well, at this point I would say you should call a priest... If it doesn't show up on lspci, it's Dead. I am unaware of any methods in which it could be disabled to the point of not showing up on the pci bus. |
